The QFHS was established by a group of researchers in 1979 in Brisbane. QFHS has accumulated a large collection of maps, microfilms, books and journals exploring the family history of Queensland residents. Some are available for loan, while others can be viewed electronically. 

QFHS hosts special seminars, monthly guest speakers, group meetings and open days. Members can use the look up services to search for a particular source in the database of information available at QFHS or request for personalised assistance in their own research.
