Current research
Prosentient Systems has been engaged in the development of data-intensive internet information systems for over 20 years. Dr. Edmund Balnaves, the Director of R&D at Prosentient Systems, is actively engaged in research in the area of systematic digital content management, desktop services supporting digital archiving and the information commons.
Research projects we are involved in include:
Information commons
As more content is "born digital" we are looking at desktop systems for archiving that content. The internet is a very convenient and cost effective way for creating and delivering electronic documents - journals, for example - but it creates a further requirement for the long-term, safe storage of electronic resources in an archive.
Open Source Systems
We undertake workshops, software development and cross-system integration in open source systems to faciliate adoption of open source. This has included:
- Our workshop in Rome 2010 with the UN Centre for Global ICT on open source library management systems
- Our workshop in Puerto Rico 2011 with the UN Centre for Global ICT on open source digital library systems
- As author for the UN Handbook for ICT in Parliamentary libraries in conjunction with an international committee of Parliamentary librarians
We are working on various aspects of integration between open source library systems to provide an integrated framework for libraries, including:
- Joomla with Koha
- Joomla with DSpace
- Koha and DSpace cross integration
