"An EFFICIENT and ECO-FRIENDLY system that CONNECTS drivers and passengers
to save money, make new acquaintances and help the environment"

The work associated with implementing a Carpool site can be summarised as follows:

  1. Site setup: creating an instance of the application with IP addresses and URLs
  2. Site configuration: setting the user preferences, loading regional location data, linking to your graphical elements and CSS and changing the textual content to reflect your own site
  3. Graphical customisation: doing a graphical makeover that goes beyond substituting images and CSS files
  4. Functional customisation: adding new functionality to change the way the application works (beyond choosing from existing preference options)
  5. Implementation tasks: planning and coordinating rollout tasks can be done by Prosentient if required, eg. marketing, road signs, launches, media
  6. Hosting fee: an annual cost for server, storage management including backups, bandwidth and technical support

Pricing becomes a little complicated if graphical or functional customisation of the application is required.

The Carpool application comes as a generic version from Prosentient. By supplying your own graphic files and CSS stylesheets, the generic application can be personalised with your own branding, look and feel as part of the configuration cost.

There is also an alternative graphical skin that is the copyright of Lismore Council.  They are prepared to licence it to other car pools for $5,000.

"Carpooling"

Two or more people making arrangements to travel together in one car

USER-FRIENDLY DESIGN

Implementation

- Drivers and passengers register their contact details and journey requirements on the site or app.
- The software automatically puts passengers and drivers with matching requirements in touch to discuss possible journey sharing arrangements.
- If agreed, they meet up en route and complete one or more journeys together.

Members of the community can opt for an initial "Test Drive" to try the service before signing up.

Take a Test Drive!

How Does It Work?

· The carpoolers from your community register on your free website
· They select their journey and search for others going in the same direction
(both drivers and passengers, or passengers with a licence)
· They meet up on route or at selected locations

Benefits for the Carpoolers

A commuter carpooling just one or two days a week can make all the difference:
· Saves money
· Reduces wear and tear on the car and you
· Helps reduce carbon gas emissions
· Makes roads safer by fewer cars
· Might end up doing new friends and connections

"It is a practical way of sharing transport costs and reducing road congestion and vehicle pollution."

The average carpooler can cut out as much as $600 each month on the cost of their commuting drive.

By carpooling twice a week, 1,600 pounds of greenhouse gases can be kept out of the air each year.

If 100 people were to take advantage of the carpool option every day, more than of 1,320 pounds of carbon monoxide and 2,376,000 pounds of carbon dioxide could be removed from the air.

About 18% of a person’s monthly budget it taken up in car maintenance, repairs, and gas.

Carpooling means fewer cars on the road each day which means less oil usage, and this can help reduce the nation’s dependency on foreign oil.

If everyone opted to carpool just one day a week, the traffic on the nation’s major highways and roads would be reduced by as much as 20%.
